We're a regular Australian family.
Not investors. Not property managers. Just parents who wanted to travel without the financial stress that usually comes with it.
Like a lot of Aussie families, we love to travel but the cost of it was getting harder and harder to justify. Flights, accommodation, food, fuel ~ it all adds up fast.
Then one school holidays, we decided to try listing our home on Airbnb while we were away. Just to see. And honestly? It changed everything. Suddenly our home was helping pay for the trip we were already going on.
The tricky part was figuring it all out. Every guide I found online was American or British and none of it quite fit. I spent way too many late nights piecing things together, second-guessing every decision and wishing someone had just laid it out clearly for Australians.
So once I'd figured it out, I started writing it down. That's how Host & Holiday was born.
A few things I genuinely believe…
Hosting should be simple. You shouldn't need a property manager taking a percentage of your earnings or a hosting company charging you ongoing fees. Listing your own home is genuinely something you can do yourself ~ with the right guidance.
Everyday Australians belong on Airbnb. Airbnb didn't start as a platform for property portfolios. It started with two guys renting out air mattresses in their living room to pay rent. Somewhere along the way, the conversation shifted toward investment properties and full-time hosts, but the platform is still very much for the rest of us. Regular families with regular homes, listing occasionally, around their own lives. That's exactly who we built this for.
Your home should work for you. For most of us, our home is our biggest expense. Mortgage, rates, insurance, maintenance ~ it adds up. The idea that your home could also bring money in, even just a few weekends a year, is a quietly powerful one. It doesn't need to become a business. It just needs to help fund the parts of life that matter most to you.
